It has a sweet sugary, caramelised, jammy, strawberry-like odour reminiscent of candyfloss. it is a very powerful ingredient normally used at high dilution for sweetening blends or in conjunction with vanilla notes to create a rich, edible scent.
Fraterworks: Ethyl maltol was thrust in to the public consciousness with the launch of thierry mugler's angel (1992) by olivier cresp and yves de chirin with what would now be considered a rather tame dose of 0.5%.
Now more commonly found in quantities up to and beyond that of baccarat rouge 540's generous 2%, this is absolutely a must-have material for modern perfumers.
Pair's beautifully with our signature vanillin and sotolone.
