Description
Description:
Also known as Pitaya, dragon fruit is a tropical cactus fruit recognized for its striking pink skin and vibrant red flesh. Mild in both flavor and aroma, it is often described as reminiscent of kiwi, peach, and pear.
Originating in Mexico and Guatemala, its cultivation has since spread across East Asia and Australia. The fruit is valued not only for its refreshing, subtly sweet taste and crunchy texture, but also for its richness in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. While celebrated in the culinary world, dragon fruit also offers inspiration within perfumery.
Olfactory Interpretation in Perfumery
The natural aroma of dragon fruit is extremely subtle, requiring a fantasy interpretation to capture its essence in fragrance form. Its similarities to kiwi, melon, and pear provide a solid foundation for crafting a “dragonfruit accord.”
In conceptualizing this accord, I envision a juicy, plump, melon-like quality—watery, mouthwatering, and refreshing. Notes such as Calone and Aquaflora help emphasize this watery transparency, while a higher concentration of Helional enhances the fresh, luminous character.
The result is a fruity, juicy, and musky-melon accord, one that feels both vibrant and succulent—almost enough to make the mouth water.
