Benzyl Salicylate

Fraterworks: Benzyl salicylate is a wonderful light floraliser, fixative and solar aroma chemical that can be used at high doses to provide a soft and delicate canvas upon which to layer rich florals.
It is indispensable for transforming a blend of eugenol, patchouli and lily of the valley into the famous mellis accord, key to such fragrances as coco and poison.
Some people cannot smell benzyl salicylate but will still perceive its effect in a fragrance.
As mentioned benzyl salicylate blends beautifully with all types of patchouli and florals but especially ylang-ylang.

Givaudan: Floral, balsamic, sweet
Benzyl salicylate is a sweet floral, balsamic ingredient. it is used in most types of product.

Symrise: Weak, but very good fixative, sweet-floral, spicy, balsamic, slightly phenolic, azalea, gillyflower, ylang ylang, narcissus

Moellhausen: Sweet, balsamic, slightly curative

Arctander starts by elucidating the difficulty of describing its odour: “very faint, sweet-floral, slightly balsamic odor. this ester is, according to the judgment of some people (including perfumers) absolutely odorless, while others find it ’musky’ of odor. trace impurities can greatly influence the odor of this high-boiling chemical. widely used as a blender in perfumery, and generally as a mild, floral background with an effect not unlike that of ylang-ylang (except for power and topnote). excellent in all florals, carnation, wallflower in particular.”
