Isobutavan smells like a heavy, sweet vanilla with hints of creamy fruit, caramel, chocolate, and a faint note of sour milk.
Luebke, William tgsc, (1995): Sweet vanilla creamy fruity caramel chocolate
Givaudan: Vanilla, sweet, fruity
Isobutavan has a sweet, and creamy vanillic character reminiscent of white chocolate, cream soda and with a soft apricot feeling. isobutavan is much less discolourising than vanillin or ethyl vanillin and can be used at levels up to 2% in for example white soap fragrances before discolouration is a problem. it is less powdery than vanillin and has a more creamy "thickening" effect.
Perfumery Laboratory: Sweet, vanilla, creamy with notes of white chocolate and caramel
Fraterworks: Isobutavan (vanillyl isobutyrate) is a delightful gourmand chemical of white chocolate, cream soda and vanilla with nuances of apricot. it is indispensable for soap perfumers where it is a non-discolouring alternative to vanillin which causes soaps to blacken with time.
Isobutavan is less powdery than vanillin and has a more thickening effect on a blend which can be particularly useful when combined with that crystalline to add a richer and more complete vanilla note.
Isobutavan blends extremely well with other sweet materials such as vanillin signature, heliotropin, veratraldehyde, tonka bean, lactones and fruit materials like pineapple natpop, wild cherry and pineapple supreme.
