Here is probably the most modern of accords I’ve made this far. Firstly, let’s explain what a “Blue” accord or fragrance is. It is what most would categorize as fresh, oceanic, breeze, aquatic. There was a large creation of fragrances in this genre in the 90s and 2000s. With some notable fragrances being Chanel Bleu de Chanel, Versace Dylan Blue, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, Davidoff Cool Water to name a few. How do we acquire the “Blue” in these compositions? It typically is with the use of Calone, Ambroxan, ISO E Super, Dihydro Myrcenol, aldehyde C-12 MNA are some commonly used materials to create that atmosphere of oceanic and fresh. This can be a tricky accord to create because it can come off “synthetic” and “artificial” very quickly when utilizing these materials. Many of them are very strong and take some balancing. But once that is achieved, it is truly a blissful experience to harness the power of freshness. With our accord, we wanted to try and add some natural aspects through using Seaweed Absolute and Clearwood. But the seaweed was much to overwhelming and didn’t quite give the feel we were looking for. And clearwood was a little bland and decided to go with Patchoulol instead which was a great substitute in this case. All in all, this is a great accord that has lots of freshness, aquatic aspects, watery, oceanic appeal. Just dose carefully as it can easily over power a composition. Enjoy!
