Experimenting with patchouli to soften its sharp edge and bring out more sweetness has been a fun little journey. This is the result: Sankara Majani (something with African wisdom and grass) and thanks to AI for the image, which is pretty accurate in bringing the message across.
It opens light, fresh, and subtly green-floral—crisp leafy notes with a hint of brightness—before gradually unfolding into something darker, more mysterious, and sweetly enveloping. The patchouli feels rounded and warmer here, blending nicely with earthy roots, a touch of powdery violet , and that cozy vanilla undertone . This all may sound somewhat pretentious, but give it a try. I used Lyral replacer (instead of Lyral) and the Orris in the formula is Orris Givco Base. My first batch was at 15% concentration, and while it's already quite wearable and evocative (that African mystique really comes through as it ever has a smell...) There's definitely room for tweaking—perhaps a bit more depth in the base or a finer balance in the transition. Not sure about being IFRA compliant here so please be aware. Suggestions for improvements or a leaner formula with similar effect are most welcome.
Parts in thousands is in neat. It is up to the perfumer to decide on batch size and subsequent dilution needed.
