About The Formula

Introduction

This is a guest contribution to the formula sharing project. Pierre BĂ©nard, a renowned perfume developer and teacher, is the guest for this month's meeting. In this session, he deconstructs the famous "Hug Me" accord, known in perfumery for its soft and enveloping qualities.

The Hug Me Accord

The "Hug Me" accord, or "Enlasse-moi" as Pierre calls it, is known for its softness and roundness, achieved through the use of four key ingredients: Hedione, Iso E Super, Methylionone, and Galaxolide. This blend is often used as the foundation for successful fragrances and is known for its ability to envelop the wearer in a comforting embrace.

Yurei - A Ghostly Fragrance

The Yurei project aims to reimagine the classic "Hug Me" accord and create a fragrance that embodies the essence of a ghost. To achieve this, Pierre has modified the original chord using Hedione High Cis, which offers a silkier, more tactile aroma. The original Galaxolide molecule has been replaced with Phantolid, a musk that Pierre believes perfectly captures the ethereal quality of the ghost theme. This results in a fragrance with a unique character, a ghostly and comforting aroma that evokes a sense of presence and peace.

Crafting the Scent

Pierre likens the creative process to sculpting, where molecules are carefully molded and shaped to achieve the desired olfactory form. He describes the process of modifying the Hug Me accord to create Yurei, comparing the Hedione High Cis isomer to a silkier jasmine or magnolia petal, and the Phantolid molecule to a ghostly musk, embodying the ethereal essence of the fragrance.
