About The Formula

Introduction

The ever elusive Paper Accord. This is something that is sought after far and wide. The complexity in its simplicity is astounding. There have been many studies and scientific journals, analyzing its unique aroma. From the paper it self to the glue that holds the pages together to the leather bound around it. It is something we all recognize and can appreciate. In its dusty, dry, woody facets. To the new book with shining pages. This is an accord I have worked on for a while and have spent many attempts to create. I believe I was able to capture the allure of what we all crave in this accord.

The Essence of Paper

One of the interesting things to note about the Vanillin used in perfumery and the paper used modern times. Vanillin is typically synthesized from a compound called “Lignin” which is derived from trees. So it’s interesting to be able to use it in the accord and have the relationship it does. This was a hard accord to figure out as it has a lot going on for a single note. Achieving a “New Book” smell is relatively easy with just ISO E Super, Norlimbanol, and some ambroxan. But I wanted to capture the dusty and aged paper appeal with a hint of leather material to imply the “book” smell even more. But the use of the naturals garner a nice touch of aged and antiquity. It is also a bit damp and animalic which is what I imagine when I smell something like old paper.

Unique Characteristics

This accord takes a different approach compared to traditional paper scents. Rather than simply focusing on a fresh, clean paper smell, it delves deeper into the nuances of aged paper. This is achieved by introducing elements of dustiness, woodiness, and leather, creating a more complex and evocative aroma.

Applications

This accord can be used in a variety of fragrance applications, from fine fragrances to candles and home scents. It can be incorporated into unisex or masculine fragrances, adding a unique and intriguing touch. Its versatility allows for creative exploration and a wide range of olfactory experiences.
